#Chesapeake crops – from soy beans to winter wheat

It’s that time of year when the fall harvest is upon us and the soy beans are being brought to market. The beans may not be a pretty site right now. The fields are all dried and the bean pods wrinkled. Weeds are popping up throughout. As the combines make their way across the fields, row by row, there is a rolling cloud of dust from crushed husks. Inevitably my car gets covered with a brown film, and my sinuses are put on red alert. But this harvest means that the winter wheat will be put in the ground within days, and soon there will be a beautiful green carpet in southeastern Virginia.

Holiday parade in #VirginiaBeach on Sat Dec5th Atlantic Ave

Santa will be attending the Holiday Parade at the Beach on Saturday Dec. 5th. The parade route is on Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach between 15th St. and 25th St. This is the official kick off of the Holiday Season at the resort strip. If you love marching bands, fire trucks, dance groups, motorcycles, etc. – this is the place for you. Maybe you will want to cruise the boardwalk and take in the lights as well. Festivities start at 1730. Dress warm, and I’ll see you there.

Pack up the family and head to Virginia Beach’s own McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the beach, presented by nTelos Wireless. The event dates are November 25, 2009 through January 3, 2010. New displays are added every year, so don’t use the excuse that you’ve been there – done that. Take the family for a drive up the boardwalk for over 30 blocks of light displays.
Times: Sunday – Thursday 1730-2200
Friday- Saturday 1730- 2300
Pricing: $10 Nightly, $20 Limos, $45 for 15 passenger vans and larger

Military Special – Mondays from Nov 30th – Dec 14th, present your military ID and get a $2 discount!

Tired of turkey leftovers- try the Longhorn Steakhouse

We have never had a bad meal at this steakhouse located in Landstown Commons. A new item is on the menu – steak stuffed with and topped with crab. Very good. I was not sure if I’d like this combo, but it works. Great service, and great decor. We gave our meals an 8 out of 10. ( I haven’t hit that mythical 10 yet, but I’m still looking. )
